Design Manager - UK North Business, Manchester

The Design Manager will be responsible for co-ordinating the design elements and interfaces of specific task or project dependent on size and complexity. They will fully understand and manage the design requirements of the tender/project ensuring that the design is delivered in line with the programme requirements and is of a quality that reflects the budget constraints.

Key Responsibilities: 
  • Take ownership of 'design' related items within the tender bid process
  • Produce the front end design programme, for inclusion within the tender submission highlighting and explaining the key drivers and critical sub-contractors as necessary
  • Advise on the selection of specialist sub-contractors
  • Understand and provide solution where possible, against the sstatus of 'stategic design' items within the tender document and in line with JSS procedures including: planning, building control, third part requirements, brand requirements etc.
  • Present key design aspects at the technical settlement including:summary statements on alternative design solutions considered, dismissed or accepted; summary of design consultants and team, technical challenges, design risk and opportunitiy, contigency allowances for design development, Design Fees, overview of strategic design teams

Qualifications:
  • Demonstrate sufficient experience in the role of Design Manager in a construction environment
  • Degree in Construction or Design related 
  • 5 years’ experience working in the Civil Construction Industry
  • Demonstratable Temporary Works procedure, PTS, NR’s Design Approval process, CDM for Designers, CDM Awareness experience
