Role Title: Enterprise Security Architect

A full-time and permanent position has arisen within Vhi for a Enterprise Security Architect role (based in either Dublin or Kilkenny) to provide vision, leadership, analysis and design expertise for the development, maintenance and governance of IT Security architecture models and their lower-level components to support the needs of Vhi.

The successful candidate must embrace a culture of continuous improvement with strong collaboration, communication, employee engagement and empowerment skills.

The Enterprise Security Architect will develop the IT Security architecture and roadmaps from current to future states, in support of strategic and business goals and policies.
The primary role of the Enterprise Security Architect is to ensure that the respective business, application, data, solution and technology perspectives are in line with the organisation’s security strategies, policies, and standards.

Role Purpose
  • Provision of leadership and accountability for the security architecture and engineering function:
    • Provide mentorship and support and lead a high-performing security architecture team ensuring best practise is developed and adopted by the team
    • Promote teamwork and efficient communications among team members.
    • Delegate workloads, schedule tasks, and manage resources effectively.
    • Identify opportunities and leverage strengths of teammates to increase overall capabilities as well as establishing individual development priorities.
 
  • Define and develop Vhi’s IT Security Architecture in conjunction with key stakeholders and develop and manage action plans for strategic initiatives. (i.e. protecting systems, networks, applications and the interaction between those technology components and end-users) in compliance with information security policies and standards
  • Designing security architecture elements to mitigate threats at a strategic level including security frameworks, technical security standards and security patterns
  • Make recommendations for new security capabilities required to deliver on Vhi’s vision and ensures the best/most appropriate use of existing technologies and resources.
  • Establish IT and business relationships that help drive the IT security strategy forward including communicating with key stakeholders about IT security threats
  • Represent IT Security at the Architecture Technical Review group and business engagements.
  • Conduct risk assessments and evaluation of IT systems and their ability to meet system and security requirements, recommending mitigating controls for identified limitations and risks
  • Assist in identifying and assessing risk as part of the overall IT Risk Management process. Prioritize risks based on severity and likelihood and develop risk mitigation strategies and controls.
Education & Experience
  • BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Information Security or equivalent experience
  • CISSP, CISM, CISA, CRISC or other industry security certifications highly beneficial
  • SABSA or TOGAF certifications preferred 
  • Cloud vendor certifications (such as AWS, Azure), experience of the latest enterprise security architecture patterns.
  • Minimum 10+ years’ experience in IT Security architecture or similar domain
  • Ideal candidate would have technical knowledge in infrastructure security and enterprise management as well as in the areas of application security, web and cloud technologies. 
  • Candidate must be enough of a generalist to be able to effectively manage and direct security specialists on all areas of IT security
Skills and Abilities
  • A successful track record as a Senior Security Architect with minimum seven years at a senior level and experience of delivering to strict target dates and/or service levels.
  • Demonstrated leadership in coordinating initiatives across business and organisational boundaries, and building effective cross-functional teams
  • In depth understanding of industry standard Security frameworks (such as ISO 27001, NIST SP 800-53, and COBIT) for implementing, maintaining, measuring and monitoring the security practice, ideally in Financial / Insurance organisations.
  • Experienced in dealing with senior level management, compliance and risk functions as well as audit and regulatory organisations.
  • Excellent people management skills – providing direction, monitoring performance, motivating staff and building a positive working environment
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-moving IT landscape and keep pace with latest thinking and new security technologies with a passion for technology and IT security
  • Analytical mind capable of managing numerous information sources and providing data analysis reports to senior management
  • Strong stakeholder focus – able to meet the demands of internal and external customers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; the ability to articulate complex problems and solutions in a simple, logical and impactful manner.
  • Ability to stay calm, composed and focused and maintain effective relationships and decision-making capabilities during periods of high pressure
